Basic Needs
At Umoja Foundation, we understand that empowering children extends beyond the school environment. To truly support their growth and education, we must address the challenges they face at home. Our Basic Needs Program is designed to provide vulnerable families with the essentials for a safe and stable living environment. This includes housing, blankets, and solar lighting.
Housing Program
Many vulnerable families in Kisumu West live in dilapidated homes made of mud with tin roofs. These houses are often in poor condition, with leaking roofs that expose children to cold and damp conditions. This can lead to respiratory illnesses, which are especially dangerous given the limited healthcare access in the region. Umoja Foundation builds sustainable homes to ensure that children have a safe place to live. Over the years, we have constructed 165 houses, providing secure shelter for those in need.

Provision of Blankets
Kisumu West experiences cold nights. In this high-altitude area, warmth is crucial for children's health, particularly in a region where malaria is endemic. We provide 800 blankets annually to children from vulnerable backgrounds, helping protect them from respiratory illnesses and malaria.

Solar lighting
Access to electricity is a significant challenge for many disadvantaged families in our region. Some homes are not connected to the grid, while others lack the infrastructure to qualify for free electricity. To address this, Umoja Foundation supplies solar lamps, offering a sustainable lighting solution. This ensures that children have the light they need to study, even in the most remote areas.
Food Support
For child-headed households and highly vulnerable families that struggle to afford food regularly, Umoja Foundation provides essential food support. We supply grains and other vital provisions to ensure these families have enough to eat. Currently, this program reaches 155 child-headed households and other vulnerable families, helping them overcome the severe challenges of food insecurity.
